"Ragtime Bob" Darch at the Springfield Ragtime Festival
Legendary pianist and entertainer "Ragtime Bob" Darch performs at the Springfield Ragtime Festival (Springfield, MO | September 2, 2002). Bob Darch was one of the ragtimers of the 1950s and '60s who sought out the original composers and helped revive the careers of Joseph Lamb, Eubie Blake, and many others. Despite the fact that this was recorded barely over a month before Darch passed away, Darch is in good form and this is a rare opportunity to see and hear him perform on video. Australian pianist Sefton Daly performs his own composition "Brown Study" in the movie WHEREVER SHE GOES (1951). The movie was based on the life of concert pianist Eileen Joyce and is likely Sefton Daly's only film appearance. Daly was known for playing at the Minerva Theatre in Sydney and accompanied Noel Coward during WWII. He spent a short time working in London's West End theaters in the '5...

Do you play boogie woogie? Do you teach on lin?
❤
Yes, quite often. Just check for my concert entitled "Boogie and Blues." But I do not teach online.
I could listen to him all day long. Excellent pianist!

I started playing when I was 6. I'm now 60 Used to sight read Beethoven, bach, etc etc by 11. Now I wouldn't know the the difference between A Minor and A Miner. Regret stopping when i was 12. You're damn great. Love watching you.
Thanks! Really enjoyed your Footlight Parade medley.
Thanks Adam. You are one very talented musician. I first saw you years ago with Johnny Maddox in Durango.
Who told you the piano stool needed to be red?
So basically the act was smoking while dancing. Genius!
Ohh how perfectly lovely! Now they both have passed away, we can now pray for their souls. Swell fellows!
The last composer that Adam played was Tom Brier. Tom was in a horrible car accident 2016 when he was rear ended by a truck and suffered spinal cord injury up to the neck. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but even though Adam did not mention this, I could see from the way he spoke about him that Adam was well aware of Tom's on-going struggles. I think Tom is still alive as of June 2024. Now that we're in the new era of Google where it doesn't help me find information but only directs me to pay sites, I couldn't get a reliable update on Tom's condition.
Honey suck my nose???? That’s hilarious. A new side to Adam I didn’t know!!!! Thanks Adam for the great humor!!! ❤
Thank you very much for the amazing and wonderful concert.
The music industry is corrupt. They don't play the music people want, they try to change what people want instead. I think the charts have always been rigged, and the owners of the music industry just decide what will be popular each decade.
Thanks!
What an incredible rendition of Trolley Song! Was great to see you in Oxford this year, hope to hear you again soon!
The Trolley Song - whew, what a ride! Fantastic!
Lights went out on my end ... Sorry if I didn't respond in chat! At least I had the chance to hear the Cole Porter medley live. Adam's version of Night and Day is breathtaking!
'Margie' is my favorite.
Never liked blues but this Performance is making me change my mind.
You are such a talented pianist ...😊!!
Adam you are such a talenred pianist Amazing !!
Lovely old country melodies ...!!❤
Watched you play at the Diamond Belle last night, you are amazing!!

Swanson plays lots of nice rag literature but he just isn't an exciting piano player.
Even though this concert has a high number of views, I would not recommend it as an example of my work. It’s “themed honky-tonk” night… the corny 1950s commercial style of ragtime. I would suggest looking at my stride jazz oriented concerts or the concert entitled “Jazz Age Masterpieces,” for more variety and serious concert piano works of the 1920s and 30s.
Jongeman een heerlijk spel en goede oude nummers hier geniet ik nou eens echt van gr Lies
Loved your Ain't Behavior Thomas would love it too...
Wonderful concert. Glad to see you stretching out. wonderful

Great work Adam! I recently discovered your piano playing and I’m a fan! I also play a little piano 🎵and teach. I recently showed my students a video of you playing Chattanooga Choo Choo and they were blown away! It’s really inspiring.
My comments keep disappearing ... nice concert!
Golly, time to play my Frankie Carle vinyl records. Hidden too many years! Alice Faye’s rendition of “My Man” in Rose of Washington Square is on a par with the original Fanny Brice version and the much later Barbra Streisand recording.
Like your music very much. Venmo does not work from here. Paypall does. Greetings from the Netherlands
I'm crazy about Adam's rendition of "Cherokee" which I wish was recorded someplace.
Very good rendition in my opinion.
Brazil was also featured in the movie "The Eddy Duchin Story".
I found it interesting that Adam commented on a person from Buffalo who he met at an event and then one of the next 2 songs he played, Sunrise Serenade was requested by another Buffalonian.
Adam, would it be possible for you to do an evening of Slow Piano? After all, Scott Joplin said that Ragtime should never be played fast. But anyway, an evening of slower piano numbers could be an interesting concept.
Yes, definitely an interesting idea. I was just lamenting the fact that I rarely get requests for slower numbers. However, I disagree that Joplin's music should be played slow. He meant not as fast as circus reels (and there is also no proof he wrote that line -- it could have been the music publisher.)

Reminds me of my great grandmother playing for us as children. That was her era..... Thanks Adam for the memories!!
